Blue Sky Photography Team Edinburgh

Blue Sky – brilliant photography by nice people

Blue Sky is about creating amazing photography every day – that makes us very happy people.

We’re an independent, family run, Edinburgh photography studio – we like it that way. Small means we keep you at the heart of all we do. Our studio lies in the heart of Morningside in a beautiful building with an amazing photography legacy.

Blue Sky Photography has been trusted for over a decade by brides and grooms, companies (high-street and independent) and families to bring photography to life.

We’ve don’t like to blow our own trumpet too loudly, but we’ve been honoured with a fair few awards over the years for the quality of our work (and levels of service) which should all be very reassuring that you’re in trusted hands.

As a team, we know how to use our combined strengths to produce stunning photography and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We treat one another like family. Everyone who comes through our door is welcomed with warmth, heart and great coffee (you’re welcome to take a look round our photography studio here).

Sounds like we’re the photographers for you? Simply send us a message and we’ll pop the kettle on.

Meet the Blue Sky team

How long have you been a photographer?
I’ve been shooting for around thirteen years now. In the early days I was Niels’ assistant! I carried his bags and organised groups. I love how things change – now he carries my bags (what a real gent!).

Where did you grow up?
I grew up on the southside of Glasgow (some say it’s the true capital of Scotland).

What is your favourite food?
Custard!

What is your role at Blue Sky?
My role in the studio is office manager and photographer (babies, kids, family and weddings).

What is your favorite aspect of being a photographer?
Capturing personalities: from babies to old people, when you catch them with an expression or action that is so ‘them’.  I love that I get to create photographs that tell stories.

What are some things you absolutely love?
Here goes (not necessarily in this order): hanging out with the kids, cuddles, films, books, being part of a church family, catching up with old friends and picking up where you left off, exploring new places, travelling, learning new things.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
After spending time with Niels and the kids it has to be running (now I’ve caught the bug I’m a bit like Forrest Gump – I’ve got to keep on running).

If you didn’t end up a photographer, what do you think you would have been?
I’d be a writer.

Do you have a nickname?
As a child I was called Little Miss Bossy. Still trying to work that one out?

I’ve been shooting professionally over 14 years.

Where did you grow up?
A St Andrews boy at heart.

What is your favourite food?
I can resist all things in life apart from cake.

What is your role at Blue Sky?
I do whatever Alie tells me to do!

What is your favourite aspect of being a photographer?
I’m the detail king of Blue Sky. I see personality and life in all the small things.

What are some things you absolutely love?
Red wine, ideas, great coffee, travelling, the world of Apple.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I would love to be found in the gym or in an artisan coffee shop watching the world go by…

Favourite gadget:
Our dishwasher.

If you were stranded on a deserted Island, what disc would you bring?
Cafe Del Mar.

You’ve a pretty impressive photography pedigree don’t you?
Thanks! I’ve been a professional photographer for over seventeen years. It’s all I’ve ever done and I love it.

I’m an Edinburgh girl through and through. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

What is your favourite food?
My comfort food is fajitas.

What is your role at Blue Sky?
Photographer – give me a studio filled with babies, families and corporate headshots and I’ll be one very happy lady.

What made you start in the world of photography?
My dad gave me my first camera when I was just eight years old and I won my first photography competition two years later – I haven’t stopped shooting since…

What are some things you absolutely love?
People, mugs of tea, Whisky (our cat, not the drink!), babies, my family and friends.

What do you enjoy doing outside of the studio?
Running, our Saturday night family film nights (followed by lazy Sunday mornings in my PJ’s)

What’s your go to thing on Netflix?
