Five reasons you’re avoiding a family photoshoot
I was asked recently when the perfect time for a family photography shoot is. My initial answer was “it depends”
But thinking about it I realise that’s not the right answer: if you’re thinking about it now, then the time is now.
Yes we are all looking for perfection but at Blue Sky Photography we’re all about authentic.
We’re also acutely aware that time is precious: you can’t get the days or years back so why put off the important stuff? And when it comes to photographs of your family together is there anything more precious?
Here’s 5 reasons why I suspect you’re putting off your family photoshoot… and how we can help with all.

1: My kids are at a difficult age
Maybe it’s because you think your kids are at a challenging stage. I smile (as a photographer and a mum) as I’m not sure which stage is the easy age. Tell me when you work it out! The honest answer is it’s all different.
I’d say let them be themselves because every stage matters and every age is amazing in its own way.
You need to know that we’re great with kids. Sarah has been called a “miracle worker” many times over and my favourite compliment is “baby whisperer”.
You bring the family (whatever age) and let us take charge of the rest.

2: No hair, lots of hair, I don't care!
I know that one of the main reasons many people put off family shoots is because they’re not quite happy with the way they look. Perhaps you’re waiting to be the perfect body shape (what even is that? And will it ever happen for any of us?) Perhaps you’re going to get your hair done or invest in that dream new outfit.
I do understand that, but I’d also like to say you’re ok as you are. In fact you’re more than ok as you are.
Remember family photo shoots are not model shoots. They’re about being family together and your family love you for YOU.
And as photographers we’re on your side so we know how to make you look as fab as possible with the best lighting and angles.
Some of those photographs of yourself you hate? Chances are they were taken in poor lighting, or from a bad angle. #justsaying
3: I need a special occasion
Family photographs can be a great present for a big birthday or are a great excuse to get together, but let’s face it if you want to take images now then you can find a special occasion.
We used to have a poster in our gym that said “the only run you’ll regret is the one you didn’t do” I think the same could be said for family photoshoots…
Time is precious and so is your family so don’t put off something that you know is only going to bring happiness and delight for years to come.
And remember if the aim is to gift a framed photograph of you all then give us much notice as possible so we can book you in (particularly before Christmas!)
4: I can't afford it
Yes we all hate talking money and yet we all also want to talk money. Cutting to the chase, family photography should be an investment and not an added luxury. If it’s important to you, you’ll find the money.
We have a range of beautiful products to suit all budgets – from prints through to handcrafted wall art. We are not the cheapest and we make no apology.
Equally our families are real families (like us) with limited pots of money so we understand the reality of life. We’re happy to work with your budget where we can and if you’re ok talking about money then so are we.

Okay, here’s the biggie . We hear the phrase “I hate having my photograph taken” a lot. We aim to challenge this perception and fear one family photoshoot at a time.
